Dentures are pink, gum-like substances that have false teeth attached to the side. You simply put the dentures over your gums and suction them to the roof of your mouth, representing your natural gums and teeth.

This product is a great way to replace your missing teeth but also allow you to remove the dentures without any fuss. You are able to take the dentures out before you go to bed and put them back in when you eat, take pictures, and talk to your friends. If you would like specific instructions on when and where to wear your dentures, talk to your dentist during your next appointment at Wagner & Langston Family Dentistry.

Dentures might take a little bit of time to get used to, which is completely normal. We recommend that you begin using the dentures by eating small, soft foods and gradually making your way up to the foods you would normally eat throughout the day. We also suggest that you speak difficult words aloud to help your tongue become familiar with the dentures.

Can you wear dentures all the time?

Our custom dentures are comfortable enough that patients can wear them all day with no problems! However, you will want to take them out at night and soak them in denture solution. Dentures need to be kept moist so they retain their custom fit, and mouths tend to dry out during sleep. Soaking them in solution also kills off more harmful bacteria and gives your gums a chance to rest. If you must wear them to bed on occasion, we recommend taking them out and cleaning them before placing them back in for the night.

How do you take care of dentures?

Taking good care of your dentures will help them last for as long as possible. Every day your dentures will need to be scrubbed with a soft-bristle toothbrush and denture cleaner, as regular toothbrushes and toothpastes are typically too abrasive for dentures. They should always be rinsed off before being placed back in the mouth, but not with hot water, as heat can warp the shape of the denture. Regular teeth whitening products do not work on dentures, but there are denture whitening products you can purchase and home remedies you can try as well.

What type of dentures are the best?

There is no denture that is objectively better than the others; the restoration you choose will just depend on your unique needs and preferences. Partial dentures are great for replacing a few missing teeth on an arch, especially if your jawbone is not dense enough to support dental implants. If you need many teeth replaced, we may decide that extracting the remaining teeth and creating a custom full denture will be a better option. Can’t decide what you need?
